Education today does not have the same meaning as it did years ago. Or at least I hope your view of education has changed if you are working towards becoming wealthy. Formal education still has its place in society, but the world is evolving and it is changing faster than ever. Sure, a high school and even college education carry merit, but do they define how wealthy you can become? I don’t believe it does. Your education can give you a step up in landing that first job, but not over time.
Let us challenge the old way of thinking. In my view, college is only one big test. Can you stick to the curriculum and get through? Or are you not able to stay on task and get that degree? Take a step back and think about the education you received. How many of those skills are you actually using in your every day life? I would venture to guess for most of us it is less than 5%. I have not personally solved a differential equation or combined molecules into a compound for years.
What if education today were self directed and even free? I think that for the most part that is the truth! Some of the most valuable skills that I have learned and utilize on a daily basis came from being self-taught on the internet. Simple google searches can lead you to enlightenment in whatever subject you are looking for.
So what is the challenge with education today? Its not how we learn, but IF we KEEP learning. Several of us now wake up, go to work, take our breaks, return home and watch Netflix. We need to KEEP learning! That is the key to wealth. Continuing to set time aside to education ourselves daily!
